Abstract | PDF

The study was conducted to investigate the use of medication and treatment adherence in type-2 diabetes patients at the Healthcare Center in Cu Lao Dung District, Soc Trang Province. A cross-sectional descriptive study design with retrospective and prospective data collection was applied. It included 395 medical records and treatment adherence survey forms which was collected during the last 6 months of 2020. The results indicated that metformin was the most widely used drug with a utilization rate of 85,8%, and its dose of 500 mg was prescribed at the highest rate. The utilization rate of insulin was 6,8%, with the highest proportion of insulin users taking it in the morning at 22.2%. There were two treatment protocols: monotherapy (34,9%) and combination therapy (65,1%). In the monotherapy, metformin accounted for 20,8%, gliclazide for 9,6%, and insulin for 4,6%. In the combination therapy, the highest proportion was metformin + glimepiride, accounting for 38,2%. Fatigue (31,9%), abdominal discomfort and bloating (20,8%), and nausea and vomiting (14,7%) were revealed as common adverse events after drug use. There was no case of severe drug interaction. The adherence rate to type-2 antidiabetic drug usage was not high, with only 14,4% demonstrating good adherence and 53,9% considered to have moderate adherence. The factors related to adherence were living conditions and educational level (p < 0,05). From these results, it is necessary to reinforce the quality of patient counseling to educate patients about diabetic disease and medication use, resulting in improvement of adherence amounts in type-2 diabetic outpatients.

Improving the law on securing obligations by mortgage third party assets

Hong Chi Nguyen; Lam Quoc Hoi
Abstract | PDF

Mortgage of assets is one of the common measures of securing obligations, in which a mortgage relationship arises with the assets of a third party to ensure the performance of clearly existing obligations. However, there are currently many opinions that there is ambiguity between this relationship and the guarantee relationship. It would be normal if civil law clearly recorded mortgages with third-party assets to ensure the performance of obligations in the general legal regulations on mortgages. In contrast, issues of right require the mortgagee to repay the corresponding amount when the third party's assets are liquidated by the mortgagee; similarly for the right to receive remuneration upon completion of work; The relationship between the mortgagee and the mortgagee is unclear, and the rights and obligations of the mortgagee have not been recorded. Therefore, when a third party participates in this secured transaction, the author finds that the law does not have a sufficient basis to protect them. Therefore, finding out and making recommendations on securing obligations by mortgaging third party assets to protect the rights of parties (especially third parties) is necessary.

Limitations of the law in determining contributions in the joint property of spouses during divorce and some proposed remedies

Minh Nhat Nguyen
Abstract | PDF

In a divorce case, the occurrence of disputes relating to the common property of the spouses is unavoidable. While social context popularizes a setup that only a husband (or wife) engages in productive activities to generate financial gains and assets for the whole family; and the wife or husband takes on the tasks of the housework, the contributions of the wife (or husband) has not been sufficiently recognized if during a divorce case, the split in common property is necessary. This problem has been governed by the laws of marriage and family of Vietnam. However, there are too many gaps in addressing this issue as revealed in the analysis, synthesis and evaluation of the provisions of the Law on Marriage and Family 2014 and other relevant legal documents. From there, the author explores the limitations of the law in determining the contribution of spouses in common property when divorced as well as proposing some measures to address these limitations

Abstract | PDF

This study aimed to determine the change in the total contents of polyphenols, flavonoids, and some biological activities (DPPH free radical scavenging and enzyme α-glucosidase inhibition) through the impact of heat during the drying process. The study was conducted on 96% ethanolic extracts from fresh and dried Blumea lacera (Burm. f.) DC. and Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern. Results indicated that the drying process increased the active ingredient content of Rorippa indica (L.) Hiern. and Blumea lacera (Burm. f.) DC. by about 2,1 times. While biological activities of Rorippa indica in this study continued to be relatively weak, the samples of Blumea lacera indicated still alternately antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities; specifically, the dried sample scavenged DPPH free radical best (IC50, DPPH = 76.51 µg/mL) and preserving the freshness of sample conserved the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50, α-glucosidase = 18.23 µg/mL).
